Provides strategic direction for the drilling organization and ensures the safe, efficient and effective planning and execution of all drilling activity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Manages and supports HSE protocol on operations.
Works closely with Safety team to constantly improve safety.
Encourages continuous improvement and tracks progress.
Manages planning and execution of drilling projects.
Oversees daily drilling activities and costs.
Leads team on analysis and application of relevant and emerging technology.
Tracks and reports drilling time and well cost improvements.
Prepares annual budget for corporate drilling program (wells) and drilling rigs.
Tracks monthly profit/loss statements for rigs and assesses results.
Responsible for all service provider related contracts and MSAs.
Manages two subordinate supervisors who supervise a total of 130 employees in the Drilling Rigs, Drilling Engineering and Drilling Operations. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Also directly supervises six non-supervisory employees. Carries out
supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university and fifteen years related experience in drilling. Must demonstrate in-depth knowledge of horizontal drilling techniques, casing design and operational support.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office suite. Knowledge of hydraulics, torque and drag, directional modeling, geographical/scientific analysis, and project management.
