  • Overview

    Participates in full SDLC and provides mentoring to SE team members in all facets of Software Engineering and standards implementation within organization.  Provides forward-thinking solutions regarding technology, its application, and the supporting business practices. Works independently and autonomously, ability to communicate effectively to all levels and skill sets of team members throughout the organization.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


    • Participates fully in SDLC (requirements gathering, design, consultation, programming, testing, implementation, documentation, and versioning control) for projects autonomously, leading a team, or as a team member.
    • Works on and or owns, is responsible for, code and systems previously developed by others, while ensuring they are in compliance with designated standards.
    • May provide administration of applications, 3rd-Party or in-house, for departments requiring assistance with such tasks.
    • Understands, intimately, the interrelatedness of data and functionality across the corporation as a whole.   To includes 3rd party and in-house data, applications, and or points of integration.  
    • Architect solutions that provide a platform whose framework supports easily adding new functionality without redundancy and future rework requirements.  
    • Communicates with Department stakeholders and personnel on requirements, projects, priorities, timelines, and potential impacts across the organization.
    • Assembles projects, timelines, and coordinates IT assets and departmental team members required to successfully complete projects.
    • Communicates project statuses, issues, resolutions, and potential impacts across the organization, and team member performance.
    • Owns security of data and applications, counseling project team members on the requirements and their corresponding implementation measures.
    • Works in concert with the Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse Leads to design projects and solutions serving the organization's BI Presentation and Analytical requirements.
    • Ensures all required documentation is completed in a timely manner and to the proper standards.
    • Autonomously researches and selects new and or updated technologies for review.   Debates the pros and cons of the technology's application and benefits with team members and presents findings to the appropriate decision-making personnel.
    • Participates in periodic Team Member performance reviews.
    • Researches, designs, promotes, advocates, and institutes standards where necessary.

    Supervisory Responsibilities                                                    

    Directly supervises employees in the IT department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    Education and/or Experience                                                  

    Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; minimum 7 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


    Language Skills                                                              

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.


    Mathematical Skills                                                     

    Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.  Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.


    Reasoning Ability                                                          

    Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.  Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases.  Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.


    Computer Skills                                                             

    Demonstrates increased proficiency with all requirements of the SE I, II, and III levels.


    Researches and recommends new and or modified approaches to continuous process improvement both technologically and as related to business practices.  


    Project management skills for the SE IV are expected to have elevated to the level of full autonomy for highly complex projects (i.e., cross-corporation and or departmental projects).   Includes ability to mentor multiple SE III projects simultaneously as part, or not, of an overall larger project. 



    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    Microsoft certifications preferred.


    Other Skills and Abilities  

    Architect, driver, and leader within the organization's Software Engineering discipline.

    Excellent written and oral communication skills.

    High degree of initiative, attention to detail and accuracy, timeliness.

    Ability to effectively assemble, manage, and critique project teams.

    Ability to effectively mentor all Software Engineers in all aspects of the discipline within the organization.

    Ability to manage all aspects of highly-complex projects.
