    Ranch Hand

    Attends to livestock such as cattle and exotic animals on the property.

    Responsibilities

    • Rounds up cattle on horseback, sort cattle in working cattle pens, vaccinate and deworm cows and bulls.
    • Works calves; castrate bulls calves, ear tag calves and brand weaning heifers that we keep as momma cows.
    • Feeds cattle and cleans water troughs, rotates cattle from different pastures.
    • Cares for working horses; deworms them and treats them when injured.
    • Cares for Spanish goats; deworms them and treats them when injured.
    • Hauls cattle in gooseneck trailers to the sale auction or within the ranch when needed.
    • Checks on exotic and whitetail deer and fills feeders. Repairs fences around feeders when necessary.
    • Cleans deer blinds as needed.
    • Performs minor repair around the property to include, minor fence damage, welding duties, and some minor repairs on PVC water lines.
    • Trims brush and fallen trees on fence line or road areas.
    • Performs security checks around perimeter fence lines and at buildings when alarm system has been tirggered.

    Education and/or Experience                                                    
    High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a minimum of one year related experience and/or training.
     
    Language Skills                                                                
    Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
     
    Mathematical Skills                                                       
    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
     
    Reasoning Ability                                                           
    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
