  • Overview

    Leads all Reservoir Engineering activities that support and optimize current on-going development operations, uncovering and defining the way forward, and overall capturing long-term stakeholder value. Mentors junior associates and participates, coordinates and possibly leads multi-discipline and/or cross-company groups and activities.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


    Performs analysis of technical data to evaluate reservoir performance using classical reservoir engineering techniques (decline curve analysis, pressure/rate transient analysis, nodal analysis, volumetrics, material balance, natural gas reservoir engineering, reservoir fluid flow, log analysis, etc.).


    Completes field/well performance surveillance working towards proficiency using self-developed/fit-for-purpose tools and processes, as well as third party/vendor products such as Oil Field Manager, Enertia, Harmony – Rate Transient Analysis, etc.


    Performs economic evaluations of potential development projects such as, but not limited to drilling opportunities, workovers, facilities and field expansions, etc. Provides valuation of acquisition and divestment acreage and/or other company interests will also be performed. Economic analysis will typically include conventional cash flow analysis with forecasting of production rates, acquiring pertinent price forecasts, capital investments, and operation costs from respective groups, and assuring the correct assumptions regarding timing, taxes, economic limit, etc.


    Identifies, scopes, plans, secures approval, executes and assures projects capture long-term stakeholder value, such as different technologies to improve well/field/reservoir performance, new software applications, continuous improvement in existing processes, etc.


    Collaborates with team members both in and outside of department, management, field operations, joint venture partners, international affiliates, services vendors, regulatory representatives, mineral and surface owners, community, etc. to achieve goals.


    Provides support to the department through reserve stewardship, bank/credit facility support, forecasting, budgeting, acquisition/divestment, and business/operations/financial analysis.


    Provides mentoring and coaching to more junior engineers, other disciplines, and management.


    Practices good Health/Safety/Environment (HSE) habits. Complies with Safety and Asset Specialty Group HSE policies, procedures and initiatives.


    Supervisory Responsibilities 
    Directly supervises three employees in Reservoir Engineering. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    Education and/or Experience 
    Bachelor's degree, preferably in Petroleum Engineering, from four-year college or university and a minimum of ten years related experience and/or training.


    Language Skills 
    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.


    Mathematical Skills 
    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.


    Reasoning Ability 
    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.


    Computer Skills 
    To perform this job successfully, an individual should have intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).

    Other Skills and Abilities 
    Must possess technical proficiencies in PHDWin, OFM (Oil Field Manager), IHS/Fekete Harmony RTA, WellFlo (nodal analysis), Pressure Transient Analysis, IHS Enerdeq, DI (DrillingInfo).


    Other Qualifications 
    Tight gas/unconventional resource experience is preferred.
