Manages the income tax compliance function by utilizing federal and state laws and regulations while minimizing the income tax burden through effective research, planning and innovation, and performs any combination of tax accounting functions. Communicates with other departments and liaisons with third party legal and accounting professionals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Aids in the gathering and preparation of tax return information for use by outside CPA firm for the final preparation of federal and state income tax returns.
Prepares quarterly and/or annual tax projections for both state and federal tax returns. Reconciles and manages fixed assets.
Performs tax research surrounding proposed transactions and other tax issues.
Supports the SALT function including state sales tax and severance tax matters.
Assists in the creation of policy and procedures for the structure, function and future growth of the tax department.
Provides high-level support to the Tax Director on special projects including research and tax planning.
Directly supervises 1-2 employees in the Tax Department of Finance & Accounting. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience
Master's degree in Taxation (M.S.) or equivalent with a minimum six years of related experience in public accounting or industry and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Outlook.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Certified Public Accountant certification or Juris Doctorate required.

Exploration & Production company experience strongly preferred.
Partnership/Subchapter K experience strongly preferred.
International tax and Sales tax experience is a plus.
Familiarity with CCH Engagement and RIA online tax research is a plus.
