Overview

Summary: Operates one or various types of power construction equipment, such as motor graders, bulldozers, scrapers, compressors, pumps, derricks, shovels, tractors, or front-end loader to excavate, move, and grade earth, erect structures, or pour concrete or other hard surface pavement. Maintains and repairs equipment when necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Operates equipment in accordance with company procedure. Learns and follows safety regulations. Performs daily safety and maintenance checks. Participates in routine maintenance of equipment.
  • Operates equipment required to prepare location in accordance with construction plan or company standard operating procedures. Starts engines, move throttles, switches, and levers , and depress pedals to operate machines such as bulldozers, trench excavators, road graders, and backhoes.
  • Operates equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Avoids potential hazards and obstructions, such as utility lines, pipelines, other equipment, other workers and falling objects. Drives and maneuvers equipment equipped with blades in successive passes over working areas to remove topsoil, prepare/level subgrade, dig pits, and/or process caliche material. Drives and maneuvers equipment equipped with buckets to excavate material and install pipeline, expose other in-ground hazards/pipelines, clean job locations and assist in loading/unloading trucks.
  • Coordinates machine actions with other activities. Position or moves loads in response to hand or audio signals from foreman/crew members.
  • Assumes Foreman responsibilities in his/her absence.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifiations:                                       

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

 

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid driver's license.

 

Other Skills and Abilities

Ability to work and communicate well with others.

 

Other Qualifications:

  • General knowledge of the oil and gas industry.
  • Good mechanical aptitude.
  • Motor vehicle record (MVP) reflecting no convictions for recurring or serious violations or accidents.
