Overview

Summary

Assists in the administration of the income tax compliance function, and performs any combination of tax and accounting functions in conjunction with the Tax Senior Manager, Tax SALT Manager, Tax Director and outside contractors. 

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

Aids in the preparation of federal tax return information used by outside CPA firms in the federal tax compliance function.

 

Participates in the preparation of quarterly tax projections for both state and federal tax returns, and works with the financial reporting group to prepare quarterly and annual financial information.

 

Reconciles and manages fixed assets, and performs reconciliations of book/tax differences.

 

Supports the SALT function including state sales tax and severance tax matters. Files and managers Severance Tax refunds.

 

Provides accounting and tax support to various state and federal audits as needed.

 

Performs any other projects assigned by the Managers or Director as needed.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Master's degree (M. A.) in Taxation or LLM Tax; Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; minimum of four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

 

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office and be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Certified Public Accountant or CPA candidate.

 

Other Skills and Abilities                                                           

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work well in teams.

Strong interpersonal skills.

 

Other Qualifications                                                    

Exploration & Production experience strongly preferred, but not required.

Thorough understanding of individual, partnership, and S-Corporation income tax returns and related issues.

Partnership/Subchapter K experience strongly preferred.

Sales tax experience is a plus.

Familiarity with CCH Engagement and RIA online tax research is greatly preferred.
