Summary

The position is designed to develop the talents and skills of a Mechanic .  LEG will partner with community colleges and trade schools to recruit students who are enrolled in a co-op class in a Diesel Engine Mechanics and Repair Program or other similar programs. The team member will be assigned a mentor to assist him/her through the program.  Progress is the responsibility of both mentor and team member.  The training period will provide various mechanic and equipment experience, technical and industry education.  

Responsibilities

  • Equipment Maintenance: Will train to performs preventative maintenance on equipment according to established guidelines and time frames..
  • Tool Maintenance: Performs daily inspections of tools and equipment used. Ensures cleanliness of hand tools, equipment and parts.
  • Other Qualifications:  preferably enrolled in a Diesel Technology/Automotive program in a community college or trade school or at least graduated from a program within the last 12 months.

Education and/or Experience                                                  

Less than high school education; no related experience or training required.

 

Language Skills                                                              

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

 

Mathematical Skills                                                     

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

Reasoning Ability                                                          

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

Computer Skills                                                             

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic knowledge of computer use and Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge of RTA Fleet Management Software is a plus.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid Driver License.

 

Other Skills and Abilities                                                           

Strong communication and time management skills.

Ability to work under pressure.

 

Other Qualifications                                                    

Bilingual in English and Spanish.
