Overview

Summary:

Provides a high level of technical support on a regional or system basis relating to corrosion control and pipeline integrity. Designs and maintains cathodic protection and internal corrosion control facilities. Conducts internal and external specialized corrosion tests on steel structures.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Designs, install, operates and maintains cathodic protection facilities, power lines, galvanic anodes, and corrosion control facilities.
 
Monitors the conditions of the pipeline through pipe-to-soil potentials, visual inspection, examination of coupons, data from in-line tools, etc.
 
Monitors electrical isolation and identifies points of electrical shorts.
 
Conducts various test, measurements, and surveys to ensure efficient operation of cathodic protection facilities.
 
Evaluates trends to plan for corrective actions, including capital project replacement.
 
Lead efforts to design and implement effective long term cathodic protection system.  Prepares drawings, job specifications and contract bid documents.
 
Assists E&C and Engineering personnel with the evaluation, development, implementation and maintenance of facility grounding system.
 
Performs coating evaluations for atmospheric corrosion control and prepare mitigation plans.
 
Inspects the work activities of third party vendors
 
Mentors fellow team members when the opportunity arises.

Education and/or Experience                                                    
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
Language Skills                                                                
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
 
Mathematical Skills                                                       
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
 
Reasoning Ability                                                           
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
 
Computer Skills                                                               
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office.
