Overview

Summary:

Operates, maintains and repairs drilling machinery and equipment on drilling rig in a safe and efficient manner.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performs maintenance and repairs on rig equipment as per company policy and procedures.
     
  • Communicates specific maintenance or repair needs to the Toolpusher as required.
     
  • Works on the rig floor during tripping operations as directed by Driller.
     
  • Operates pipe handling equipment on the drilling location.
     
  • Takes regularly scheduled reading of specific rig equipment and records them as directed by Toolpusher.
     
  • Reports incidents, equipment failures, system failures and abnormalities as per company policy and procedures.
     
  • Trains and mentors Floorhands.
     
  • Participates in pre-tour meetings and participates in and/or leads pre-task incidents.
     
  • Identifies hazards in the workplace and implement sufficient controls to prevent incidents.
     
  • Maintains good housekeeping on the drilling location to include rig components, offices and accommodations.
     
  • Understands company policy and procedures and performs duties in accordance with them.
     
  • Recommends improvements to company policy and procedure.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience                                                     
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
Language Skills                                                                 
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
 
Mathematical Skills                                                        
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
 
Reasoning Ability                                                            
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
 
Computer Skills                                                                
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have minimal computer skills. A basic knowledge of email systems such as Microsoft Outlook or internet based systems is preferred.

Other Qualifications                                                      
This position requires the person to work outdoors for an entire tour work shift in all types of weather conditions, including precipitation, cold / heat, high wind, and turbulent conditions. They will be exposed to the typical conditions of the local area where the rig is located. They must work with an emphasis on safety for themselves and others including coworkers and third parties. They must be able to work closely with others as they will work together in the confined area of the drilling rig and may choose to live together in crew quarters. They must be willing to work a hitch, which consists of 7 days on / 7 days off, working 12.5 hour shifts that can include days or nights and as well as weekends and holidays.
